Today I also got the backstrip inlay finished. This is not just decorative, it overlaps the joint on the back plates and reinforces it with a overlapping glue joint. The strip is curly Koa same as the binding will be. Below is a picture where I wet it to bring out the figure. It's going to look awesome.
I used the Festool OF 1400 router mounted on the track with a micro-adjuster guide in place. This guide allows me to adjust the router position in 10ths of a millimeter, which is how I fine tuned the fit of the back strip to be perfect. The depth adjuster can also be adjusted in 10ths of a mm.
